creative birth preparation

Preparation for birth comes in many shapes and sizes. Creative birth preparation is for those who are curious; for people who want to reflect on their pregnancy,  to connect with their baby through movement, creativity, sound and breathwork, and create memories through writing and drawing to look back on.

Pregnancy and the passage to motherhood and parenthood are transitory — the moments of beauty, confusion, chaos, silliness, disbelief and messiness can often get lost or forgotten.

Creative birth preparation gives you a space to move, reflect, and create something for yourself in the midst of all this change.

Move, breathe, write, doodle and draw in relaxed, creative and playful sessions in preparation for birth and parenthood.

What is the aim?

I work with you to create moments to reflect on the transition to motherhood and parenthood. Writing and drawing don't always come easily, so I offer creative prompts for movement, sound and breathwork to lead into ways of articulating the connections between yourself and your baby, partnerships with family and friends, and to explore the messy, strange, and intense feelings you may be experiencing on your pregnancy journey.

What will you learn?

You will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the pregnant body and the baby, and about how movement, sound, and breathwork can be used by yourself and with your partner in labour, birth, and after.

Is this only for vaginal birth?

Whether you're planning a cesarean section birth or a vaginal birth, these sessions can be for anyone to experience their pregnancy in the moment and to prepare for postnatal recovery and healing as well as infant feeding.

How does it work?

Each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours long to allow time for sharing texts and images, movement, sound and breathwork, and integration of the information through creative writing and drawing prompts. There will be time at the end of each session for relaxation and reflection.

“Unlike my first, I really felt like I DID IT and managed the pain pretty much exclusively with breathing and the tools we practised… huge thanks for all the prep and confidence building.”

-- Former birth preparation attendee

“Dom and I have reflected on how useful it was to have the sessions with you in preparation. I put into practice a lot of the moves — I couldn’t stop moving around, squatting with my breath, walking, he held me on all fours, squeezing my hips and holding hot water bottle to me and applying pressure. And we did a lot of the breathing and oms together. Made it all feel so much more manageable and it felt really natural. Thank you so much for all your help!”

“I can't quite believe it all happened as planned. It has to be down to all the prep and pelvic tilts — so a HUGE thank you to you both for instilling such confidence and self-belief in my body.”
